Annie finally hit her limit with Cat. In the last 24 hours she has attacked the cat three times, each time coming out the winner. Surprisingly the cat doesn’t seem too bothered. She just finds a place to lie above Annie’s reach.
This surprised all of us. We thought the cat had Annie under complete control, but when the brawls begin the cat turns and runs. Like any dog, a cat in full retreat transforms Annie into a crazed cat-killing lunatic until we jump in and calm her down.
It would be really cool to get this on video, but the skirmishes happen suddenly and end as quickly as they begin.

Wait. Hold up. You mean to tell me cats and dogs fight?

Outside, in the wild, cats and dogs fight, yes. But inside the tranquil confines of the Hertzler House most living beings succomb to the overwhelming peacefulness that permeates every corner of our abode. They love all other living beings. Our children never fight at home, and Cathy and I always get along. So it was such a surprise when Annie decided to make Cat her enemy. I think Annie just needs more time with her canine counselor to work out her aggression issues. We got her, the runt of the litter, after she was already six months old, and by that time she developed harmful thinking patterns that she is only now dealing with as an adult dog.

So will you be bringing Cat back to the US this summer?

No. Cat stays here. We’re all a little sad about it, but Audrey is allergic to cats. It hasn’t been too bad during the winter months here, though.
