They were owned by the Lykes family until about 10 years ago when TECO Energy acquired the company. Sometimes it is easier to leave the name alone rather than try to rebrand it. Sometimes Peoples Gas is branded as TECO Peoples Gas (check the logos on the TECO Energy web site.) The other divisions have been TECO Energy subsidiaries for a much longer time (in fact Tampa Electric was formed in 1899, but TECO Energy only came into existence in the 1980s). HTH.
