[...] Today was the first day our ministry group, the Campus Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, reoccupied our newly renovated workspace. My earlier glimpse of the office was accurate but not as bad as I feared. [...]

Jerry,

Welcome to the new NCO. I had the same kind of shock when I went in on Wednesday. I was shocked to find out that I am considered mobile when I have a nice deep docking station and a 19" monitor. I like being mobile with my laptop from time to time but I was not expecting this.

Jerry,

CC is way behind the times. That cart has much too much real estate. While the wheels hint towards a lack of permanence, it still hearkens back to traditional table design.

Here is the latest in portable office ergonomics.

http://utilia.be/label/scooterd/

With this innovative iPod/blackberry ready design, each employee (or should we say, “resource unit”) is assigned a primary personal workspace location. In case of a communication emergency in which, God forbid, all forms of digital communication have failed, one can simply roll the entire workspace to the neighboring workspace location for a limited face-to-face exchange. Of course, office traffic laws will have to be instituted and strictly enforced.

Now with the ability to house so many resource units in such close proximity, what of the noise? How about your own personal cone of silence?

http://www.123webguru.com/website_design_news/noprivacyi325.html

Did you ever wonder where all of those unused Solaflex exercise stations end up? And....do you yearn for a totally immersed, Matrix-like work environment? Wait no more.

http://www.mypce.com/

Do you happen to work in an area without a window? No problem. You just need a “Sunlight Table”

http://www.random-international.com/sunlight-table

"The Sunlight Table" brings natural light into workspaces and creates unspoken, ambient interactions while working. By doing so, it encourages a dialogue between work and nature and re-establishes a connection with the outside world."

It would all be funny if it weren't so real.
