So are you looking for suggestions for your alma mater or for you? I would have expected much more interesting responses from your readership suggesting name changes for you...I mean Square has been around for quite awhile I wonder if something like International Square or Jerry Square and Tech (Jerry S&T for short) would be possibilities...ha ha ha

I would choose either Missouri Institute of Technology or Missouri Polytechnic University, and probably the latter as there is already a better known MIT.

Not surprisingly, it turns out my "scoop" was not really a scoop at all, unless you were keenly interested in the timing of the announcement. Andrew Careaga has been writing about this for several months now: http://namechange.umr.edu.

There was an alumni survey on which I could have indicated my own vote for a name, but I missed it. My choice would have been "Missouri University for Science and Engineering."

I wonder if it will become known colloquially as "Missouri Tech"?

Shrewd move by Southwest. That change effectively makes Northwest and Southeast look like....something less.
