This is the hole that the same armadillo keeps burrowing under our backyard palm trees every few months. This has been going on for two years now. I fill in the hole, and he burrows it out again a couple months later. Got any ideas how to stop him from burrowing here, short of calling a professional pest remover?

Hey, do you know why the chicken crossed the road?
To prove to the armadillo that it could be done…
So if the armadillo isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer……..

Can’t top the chicken crossing the road one!
Have you tried “critter ridder” or some similar pepper based powder? Or, if not that, something else that is repulsive to armadillos?
I’m from the north, so for all I know nothing is repulsive to them…. but I thought I would ask anyway.
Good luck!

I filled an armadillo hole with dirt and then covered it with several inches of gravel. That has worked for 4 months so far.
I tried various peppers and that didn’t work.

You can also try “human hair”, which Army thinks is the hair of a “large predator.” I have heard that works. As well as possibly dog or human urine, marking their territory.

At this point I think we have the problem solved. We filled the hole with dirt that was mixed with moth balls. On top of the dirt we laid bricks. After about two months there has been no sign of digging – there. I noticed another burrow had been started in another part of the yard. D’oh!
